Well, this story is quite interesting actually.
Let’s say it all started when I was just 6 years old, when my father came home with a computer in his hands, and a BIG smile on his face. Me and my little brother didn’t understand what it was, but we were happy to see a new thing that we could play with. We all had that white computer with that huge monitor that you could barely move an inch. Yeah, that one!
All the fun started when my father called a friend of his to set up our dial-up Internet (do you remember that sound? Oh the memories and the chills…), and loaded up the Disney website. I was completely mesmerized. I remember spending days and nights trying to imagine what the hell is happening in that mysterious white box so that Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny and all the other childhood characters suddenly appeared on the screen. Ever since that moment I tried to learn every single day, trying to understand how computers work, and what are they capable of.
When I really began to understand computers and to use them was in the last 2 years of high school, when our programming teacher taught us the basics. Long story short I started to develop a passion for programming. I was fascinated by how with a few lines of code you could make the computer do whatever. When I wrote the famous “Hello World” program I felt like I was in the Matrix.
Well of course I didn’t know what I was doing, but I liked it and sticked with it. Fast forward a couple of years and here I am. An engineer wanna be who has no idea what he’s going to do after college, but he really likes what he learned in college. To buy me some time, I applied for a Master’s degree abroad, just to travel to a foreign country and to meet other people, and get absorbed in another culture.
Hope I’ll get admitted. Fingers crossed!
